Diversity Scholars Fund

The Diversity Scholars Fund provides funding to African American students to complete the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training (BACWTT) 3-year Waldorf teacher training program. Scholars can receive support to complete the 4-month Foundation Studies as an  entry point, before deciding to continue with the full 3-year training.

It is our intention to deepen and broaden the representation of diverse voices and perspectives that enrich the quality of a BACWTT education, as well as to be transformed by the diverse perspectives that our students bring. We continue the evolution of Waldorf education to meet the tremendous need for anti-racist and anti-bias education.

We are fundraising to provide tuition for 2 students to receive a full 1-year scholarship. Thanks to the support of a generous supporter, all donations will be matched up to $10,000!

Diversity Scholars Fund Mission Statement
To increase African American representation among qualified Waldorf teachers in Waldorf schools and in the Waldorf education movement across North America.

To evolve the holistic, healing and strengthening impulse of Waldorf education to include the perspectives of African American teachers.

To create opportunities to improve and evolve the BACWTT program through dialogue with African American students and alumni by ensuring that their perspectives are living within the BACWTT community.

To ensure that the African American perspectives are included in our intentions for the development of society and culture.

Thank You For Your Support!

With donations made to our GoFundMe campaign, along with contributions made by mail and the generous matching funds by an anonymous donor, we have met our campaign goal!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our Covid-19 Relief Fund. These funds will go directly to our students who have been impacted financially by the pandemic.

This has been a year like no other. The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting all areas of our lives all around the world. It is also reminding us of our undeniable interdependence and of what we value most in our lives. Aligned with these themes, this year is also waking us up to the need to do better to address racism in our past and present.

Our Annual Fund kicks off this year with a plea to help our current students who are under extreme financial distress due to the pandemic. Later this fall and winter, our appeal will focus on issues that also need our urgent attention: the development of a more comprehensive approach in our teacher training to issues of diversity, equity, inclusivity and consciousness, including new scholarships for African American students to complement our existing program for Native American/Indigenous people, and DEI training for our faculty, staff and students.

We have a dream where Waldorf Education is back at the forefront of addressing issues of social justice. Just as Steiner addressed issues of economic, class, and gender inequality in forming the first Waldorf school in Stuttgart, we will be tackling these issues this year.

Many students at BACWTT are experiencing very real difficulties in being able to meet their tuition payments. While we offer generous tuition assistance, they still need your help. Their impulse and dedication to prepare for the future needs your support. Waldorf schools and Waldorf teacher education institutes like ours continue to provide the beauty and depth of a holistic and human education so needed in our world.

Please support our dream by making a donation today that will directly support current and future BACWTT students and the health and consciousness of our program.
