SUMMARY:Early Childhood Teacher Rejuvenation
DESCRIPTION:Sowing Seeds for LiteracyWith Anjum Mir and Kate Hammond \n\n\n\nChildren unfold capacities for learning in an environment that supports their natural growth. How do we provide opportunities for cognitive learning in early childhood settings? Enlivening activities in the classroom develop persistence\, focus\, and a ripeness for knowledge. During this week together\, we will consider what the foundation for literacy is and how we can build such capacities in our day-to-day work. \n\n\n\nSinging with Christiaan Boele\, Speech with Christine Burke\, and Eurythmy with Karen Gallagher.

SUMMARY:Teacher Rejuvenation: Grades 1-5
DESCRIPTION:Finding Gold – Keeping Afloat! \n\n\n\nExploring new paradigms for health and vitality in class teaching. \n\n\n\nThis year\, we turn our focus toward the need to reassess what we can do to keep ourselves and our children healthy. In a world of overwhelm and distraction\, where do we find our own source of strength and abundance so that we may support the needs of today’s children? What are the Waldorf tools and practices that lie forgotten at the bottom of our backpacks that we can renew and draw upon? \n\n\n\nWe are very happy to have Warren Lee Cohen again this summer leading our lower grades week. Warren will have just graduated his 8th Grade class and will share his experience of self-care\, inner work\, and shaping the life of the class to bring sanity and stability to the young child. \n\n\n\nHe will share his years of experience both as a class teacher and as a former director of the Waldorf teacher training program in Toronto\, Canada. \n\n\n\nOur team of experienced teachers will share their knowledge with each grades track\, ensuring you receive a wide range of perspectives and practical support to help you know where to dig and how to stay afloat in your coming year. \n\n\n\nSinging with Christiaan Boele\, Speech with Christine Burke\, and Eurythmy with Karen Gallagher.

SUMMARY:Teacher Rejuvenation: Grades 6-8
DESCRIPTION:How Can I Truly Know the World? Experiential Learning for the Developing Adolescent \n\n\n\nThis year\, we turn our attention to the importance of experiential learning and the ways it can support middle school students in finding their feet on this earth\, building an inner safety net\, and discovering pathways to manage the overwhelming influences of screens\, social media\, and AI. \n\n\n\nPaolo Carini will guide the theme of the week\, focusing on the development of manual competence for the contemporary student and the fundamental values provided by experiential learning. It is true that we only really know what we have directly experienced in our lives. Building those experiences by engaging in hands-on activities—whether it is making an artistic project\, a science project\, or a delicious minestrone soup—helps students develop a real sense of manual competence\, and with that the confidence to tackle many other challenges\, including those that may be considered purely in the thinking realm or in the ethical and social realm. This confidence is deeply nourishing for the soul and is declining dramatically in today’s culture\, leading to feelings of helplessness in the face of life’s many challenges. \n\n\n\nWe are very happy to have Paolo Carini with us again this summer leading our upper grades week. Paolo has taught at the San Francisco Waldorf High School for 28 years and is a longstanding member of the BACWTT faculty. He will share his experiences of guiding young people into lifelong learning. \n\n\n\nWe have a team of very experienced middle school Waldorf teachers who will share their knowledge with each grades track\, ensuring a wide range of perspectives and practical support for the coming year. \n\n\n\nGrades Track Teachers: Paolo Carini\, Ganga Sivasankaran\, David French\, Ramona Budrys\, Ken Smith \n\n\n\nSpecialist Arts Faculty: Christiaan Boele (Singing)\, Christine Burke (Speech)\, Karen Gallagher (Eurythmy)

SUMMARY:Entering into the World of Light & Darkness
DESCRIPTION:Charcoal Workshop with Pamela Whitman \n\n\n\nWorking with the soft and malleable medium of charcoal provides us with a unique artistic experience of becoming sensitive and creative within the realm of light and darkness – bringing depth\, form and direction to their interplay. This is a special aspect of Anthroposophic artistic therapy and an essential tool when seeking to support the process of the incarnation of our spirit into our earthly body. Through charcoal work\, we learn to bridge between these polar opposites and experience how they can work together in the process of transformation and integration. Through working on our pictures\, we work on ourselves! We can find a breathing connection as we explore the appropriateness of different kinds of boundaries. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is an opportunity to deepen our understanding and experience of light and darkness and explore the possibilities for the use of its healing effects. It is a valuable activity to bring to the turbulent years of the mid-teens through adulthood.

SUMMARY:The Revelation of Formative Forces in the Young Child's Drawings
DESCRIPTION:An online course with Laurie Clark. \n\n\n\nAn understanding and deep appreciation for the formative forces at work in the in-carnation processes of the young child is of tremendous importance to the work of Waldorf teaching. It is one of the foundation stones of Waldorf education upon which the curriculum and classroom activities are built. \n\n\n\nFor over four decades\, Laurie Clark has been observing children’s drawings and gathering insights into the inner processes they reveal. She will share from her vast collection of drawings and video clips to unfold\, step by step\, the deep inner experiences that the child is having as they work to find their way into their bodies and onto the Earth. \n\n\n\nLaurie’s work builds upon the research of Michaela Strauss\, Audrey McAllen\, and others. This is vital work that enables us to understand the archetypal journey of the child\, observe the challenges that children today are working with\, and find ways to provide much needed support. It lays the groundwork to understand the develop-mental processes that continue throughout childhood. The course is open to everyone interested in the theme.

SUMMARY:Ancient Artworks: Mirroring the Developmental Processes in Young Children's Drawings
DESCRIPTION:Online Course with Ken SmithDecember 3\, 2025 | 5:30-7pm PT \n\n\n\nOne of the remarkable ideas that informs Waldorf education is that the young child moves through the stages and processes seen in human evolution. The recapitulation of these processes may be readily observed in the spontaneous drawings of young children and in how they mirror ancient artworks found all around the world. \n\n\n\nWaldorf education emphasizes that the child’s state of consciousness is changing as they grow. Not only are their bodies growing and developing\, but how they experience themselves\, the world around them\, and their sense of knowing and under-standing is also changing and evolving. \n\n\n\nThis archetypal process of development is written into the core of the human being and the child. In following this timeless path\, they work their way through layers of formation\, building themselves up during the course of childhood into a contemporary person. As educators\, we should understand this path and the strata the child is working through each year so that we can bring recognition and support. \n\n\n\nFor over 30 years\, Ken has been studying art\, visiting ancient sites\, and combining his fascination for the artistic creativity of humanity with the wisdom that informs the Waldorf curriculum. He will share images that will help bridge the art of the ancients and the children in front of us today. \n\n\n\nThe course is open to everyone interested in the theme.
