Join our 13-week Foundation Studies program to engage in a process of reimagining and redefining who we are and how we can be agents for positive change in the world.
The program focuses simultaneously on two paths of transformative self development.
Inner work: Meditative practice, biographical reflection, and artistic expression.
Outer work: Waldorf education, biodynamic farming, 3-fold social renewal, and Anthroposophic healing.
The time is ripe to search for new directions.
The Covid-19 pandemic, social unrest caused by ongoing racial injustice, increasing dependence on technology, deterioration of food production, damage to the environment, and loss of connection to nature have all come to the forefront of our awareness in the past year. It is time to question the assumptions upon which we are basing our life choices, to question the authority and inflexibility of our present worldview, and to find alternatives to materialism and consumerism. In the Foundation Studies program, students and teachers come together to envision a holistic path forward, to make connections and find colleagueship, and to discover practices that create a pathway to support well-being for us as individuals and the planet.
This program leads into the 1st Year of the Waldorf Teacher Training, as well as pathways into further training in biodynamic farming, Anthroposophic medicine and healing arts, and other positive practices growing out of Anthroposophy.
You are never too young or too old to make a difference!
This program is informed by the original work of Rudolf Steiner and from Anthroposophic practices around the world, as well as complimentary philosophies and practices that support transformation to a more holistic understanding of the human being, nature, and the spirit.
13 weeks, beginning September 17th through December 18th, with one week off for the Thanksgiving break.
Opening and Closing Events
We will begin and end the program with in-person assemblies on both September 17th and December 18th at the Wildcat Canyon Community Waldorf School in El Sobrante, located in the East Bay.

Certificate of Course Completion
Completion of this program will entitle students to a Certificate of Course Completion issued by BACWTT. The course content and hours are recognized by AWSNA and WECAN as the Foundation Studies component of teacher training. Completion of this program allows students to continue into the 1st Year of the teacher training at BACWTT.
Ken Smith is the Director of BACWTT. After working in Waldorf education, he taught as Course Leader of the Visual Arts and Sculpture Training program at Emerson College. He has been active internationally in Waldorf education and Anthroposophical art for over 25 years.
Liz Turkel Vose is a teaching artist with over 20 years of experience working with children and adults in the performing arts. She served as a Course Leader at the International School of Storytelling at Emerson College and has contributed pedagogically to several international arts education organizations. She currently teaches storytelling, voice, music and drama around the Bay Area.
